Free Spirit 15’ Power Float! Why?

I was looking for a rod with a bit more length for better float control on my local river.

It had to be versatile enough to fish for roach, chub, grayling etc. but also be up to the job of controlling the big girls (Barbel) when they show up.

As I already owned the 13’ version of this rod and know exactly what that was capable of with carp to just under 20lb and barbel over 10lb and yet equally at home taming tench and big perch and silvers.

So I took the plunge and coughed up my hard earned on the 15’ model and balanced it out with a Shimano Aero 4000 match reel knowing this set up would be up to the job.

Within two short evening sessions i’d banked several barbel from 5lb to well over 10lb and quite a few silvers and my new set up wasn’t fazed by any of the barbel at all.

All the power is in the lower half of the rod, the top half is quite forgiving yet responsive but when it comes to putting the brakes on to stop the barbel getting back under the cover they love on my river this rod really really comes into its own.

Money well spent.
