Archie Braddock's Flavour Range

As I write I’m just completing my fiftieth year of fishing, and that does mean both summer and winter for all of those years. It hardly seems possible. I’m sure I’m too young so perhaps they made a mistake with my birth certificate. For the first thirty five years I didn’t use flavours, but since then I’ve never fished without them. They made such an impact on my fishing that eventually I decided to produce my own, as I felt sure I could make some improvements.

So why use my flavours and additives when there are so many others to choose from?

Here are some answers to that question.

1) Before I produced my own attractors I spent a good ten years fishing with many various flavours, for all sorts of fish, not just carp. Those years are covered in detail in my book Fantastic Feeder Fishing.

2) Almost all of the flavours I used were designed for boilies, which meant they were water soluble, and washed off baits like maggots too quickly. I designed my own with a built in ‘stick- on’ ability so that a residue always remained on the bait, to ensure the fish would pick it up.

3) My years of experimenting proved to me that different flavours attracted different fish. I developed this further and now produce attractors for most of the British species, which are suitable for use on all the popular baits. No other flavour producer has such a wide range.

4) The ‘stick-on’ concept proved so successful that I devised a series of carp flavours called the Plus Range, for use on the outside of boilies. This means you can change the attractor at any time without buying more boilies; from fruity, to spicy, to savoury, no matter what flavour has been cooked into the bait

5) Having a good flavour is not enough on its own, the angler must know how to use it to get the best from it. To that end I have produced the Magic Book and the Magic Video, both of which give detailed instructions on flavouring a wide range of baits. The label on each product also carries useful information.

6) All my flavours are tested by different kind of anglers: boilie men, specialists, pleasure anglers, matchmen. I need to know what each one attracts most of, whether it’s carp, roach, or even gudgeon. I also want to know what it works best with; meat, corn, maggots, bread, etc.

When I’ve sorted all that out I’ll decide if it’s worth putting on the market, so if it’s there on the shelf with my name on it - it does the business.

The Plus Flavours (liquid)

Classic carp attractors produced for boilie coating/flavouring. Boiling denatures liquid attractors. The following process is recommended with these particular flavours.

Put 2/3 ml of flavour into a small freezer bag and rub between your hands until the inside is well smeared. drop in 100 x 15mm boilies, (more if smaller, less if larger) blow up the bag and shake well until all the boilies are visually coated. Then freeze until needed. As the boilies thaw out, the flavour will be absorbed. The hookbait can be further enhanced by a quick dip in neat flavour prior to casting. This method will work on any pre-flavoured ready made boilies.
